The GES promotion process  used to be conducted through interviews, however effective 10th January, 2020, the 2019 / 2020 GES staff due for promotion would have to undergo an aptitude test instead of an interview. The GES made this known in a letter shared on a facebook post. The post reads as below;

THe management of the GES wishes to inform all staff due for promotion that the process has been reviewed to take the form of an aptitude test for all ranks from Principal Supeintendant to Depuety director. Officers who get promoted to deputy directorship shall be expected to attend face to face interviews if they desire to become heads of schools or any other positions that may require interviewing. The promotion process is as follows.

Rank                                            Process
Principal Superintendent – Aptitude Test
Assistant Director II – Aptitude Test
Assistant Director I – Aptitude Test
Deputy Director – Aptitude Test
Deputy director going for headship – Aptitude Test and headship interview

The GES will ensure that applicants for promotion receive ample notice of test dates, centers and test areas. This has been reviewed to make it efficient and fair to all staff.
Thank you.

Changes To The GES Promotion Process 2020 / 2021

The commencement of the GES aptitude test begun with a stakeholder meeting last year where after  a meeting held on the 10th of June, 2018 between the Ghana Education service ( GES ) and Teacher Unions and other key stakeholders agreed on changes to the GES Promotion process including GES Promotion 2019 / 2020 and subsequent ones.

The changes to the GES Promotion suggests that there shall be no face-to-face interviews for Principal Superintendent , Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I  and Deputy Director , instead there will be a GES aptitude test. This is as a result of the huge number of applicants to the various grades for promotion.

The GES has now moved away from the face-to-face interviews to the use of aptitude test for the lower promotion ranks. As a result, applicants for principal superintendent and it’s analogous ranks (i.e. PS, Ad II and Ad I) will be administered an aptitude test instead of an interview.

However, promotions to the ranks of Deputy Director director going for headship and higher will be subjected to a GES aptitude test first then a Face-to-face interview after  successfully passing the aptitude test.

GES Promotion Interviews And Aptitude Test Date 2020 / 2021

The Ghana Education Service schedules the interview and aptitude test date for Promotion of its staff.
Just as the previous interviews for the 2017 GES promotion were held in October and Promotion Interviews for 2018 GES promotion were held between 29th June-19th July . The 2019 / 2020 aptitude test may occur in July or October. The GES will however ensure that applicants for promotion receive ample notice of test dates, centers and test areas.
