Some students and others who come from China have started to reach Ghana without proper checks.

Research conducted by Adomonline.com revealed that people traveling from China have easily passed through the country.

Their arrivals to the country through interactions with some of the travellers without the necessary 14-day quarantine period for observations.

This revelation contrasts significantly with earlier reports and assurances provided by the Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, who identified measures put in place to prevent the Health Service from transmitting coronavirus into Ghana as impermeable.

Addressing journalists on the precautions his outfit took on Thursday, February 13, 2020 against the contagious disease, he stressed that workers were undergoing various forms of training including specimen selection, packaging, protection, and how to treat specimens without spilling and infecting the area.

“Surveillance training is very important to sharpen the skills of medical staff to help others without unduly placing themselves in undue risk…”

Adomonline.com states that some of the Chinese students reported that some of their colleagues who have recently landed in Ghana have not been quarantined for two weeks to know their true status.

He was allowed to move openly from China, according to a student who touched down on February 24, 2020, after he filled out a questionnaire. Adding that it was also separating Chinese citizens from the rest.

“I just passed. I wasn’t quarantined. I just filled some questionnaire; the Chinese are rather being separated from the rest. I think they will call us back later,”

he explained in a conversation on WhatsApp.

This development raises concern, particularly after assurances were given that travelers to and from Hubei and Wuhan City in China would be quarantined at Kotoka, the country’s only international airport, for 14 days, with around 2,500 people screened daily.
