The lioness of Africa, Wiyaala, in an exclusive interview with Berla Mundi has spoken about the effects of the tribal mark she has on her face and explains why it needs to stop.

Speaking to Berla Mundi, the tribal mark on her face shows which tribal she belongs to, and with hers, it shows she’s a “Funsi”; a tribe in Sissala.

According to her, when you are a Funsi girl, the mark is placed on your right cheek but when you are a boy it’s on your left.

She added that with the exception of her last sibling, the remaining ones have the tribal mark.

Berla Mundi asked;

How do you feel about the tribal mark….does it affect your confidence in any way, because some people have wanted to stitch theirs up…?

Wiyaala responded that;

She has never been angry about the tribal mark because at times she forgets that she has a tribal mark.

She added that at times when she travels and foreigner see the mark they also want to get one on their face.

Asked if it should be continued, Wiyaala said that she believes it should not be continued because we are all one people and moreover when someone sees the mark on your face, they may refuse to help you or do a favor since you are from this particular tribe.
