JUST IN: Nana Addo Sacks Public Procurement Authority Boss, Adjenim Boateng Adjei | Details

CEO of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been sacked by President Akufo-Addo in a letter released on Friday, 30 October 2020.

This comes few hours after the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) humbly pleaded with president Nana Akufo-Addo to sack Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

Adjenim Boateng Adjei was also disqualified from holding public office for the next five years.

Mr. Adjei was suspended from office by President Akufo-Addo following an investigative documentary by Manasseh Azure Awuni, which revealed a company he co-owned, has been selling government contracts it won through single-source and restrictive tendering, to the highest bidder.

In suspending him, President Nana Akufo-Addo also directed CHRAJ and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate his appointee for conflict of interest and corruption.

Friday, 30 October 2020, a letter from the president of Ghana written by the communications directorate in Jubilee House has terminated the contract of Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

From the letter, Adjenim Boateng Adjei is sacked from his position as the CEO of the Public Procurement Authority with immediate effect.

Below are full statement from the letter by President Nana Addo to Adjenim Boateng Adjei:


The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuro.A4do, has, by letter dated Friday, 30 October 2020, terminated the appointment from office of Mr. Adjenkn Boating Adjei as Chief Executive Officer d the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), with Immediate effect.

This follows the submissions of a report to the President by the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Joseph Whittal, in which the Commission concluded that on the totality of the evidence, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Ads; had put himself in a position where his personal interests conflicted with the performance of his functions as CEO and Board Member of the PPA.

It will be recalled that on 22 August 2019, President Akufo-Addo suspended Mr. Adienim Boateng Adjei from office, following the broadcast of allegations made against him in an investigative documentary conducted by Manasseh Arun Awuni, titled ‘Contracts for Sale. He, subsequently, referred the allegations evolving conflict of interest to CHRAJ, and those relating to potential acts of corruption to the Office of Special Prosecutor, for their action.

Having satisfied himself of the fact that the recommendation made by CHRA) Is properly motivated and well-founded, the President has expresser his appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Joseph Metal and CHRA) for the thoro.gh and methodical manner in which the matter has been addressed.
