Nanabeyin Pratt, Leonard Gikunu, Frances Awua-Kyerematen and Joshua Kyeremeh, four top personalities who have died of Covid-19 complications in 2021.

This week is a very bad week for Ghanaians, so many strange things happened this year.

Ghana has lost some key people with some few days and many people can not hide the pain.

Nanabanyin Pratt

Renowned journalist, political commentator and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has reportedly lost his brother to the deadly coronavirus.

Nanabanyin Pratt is reported to have died from coronavirus complications on Sunday, January 17, 2021. 

He was a Public Relations expert and lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Nanabanyin Pratt was also a past executive of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) and a former Managing Director of the New Times Corporation.

His passing adds to the country’s current death statistics and rising active case figures.

Concurrently, in the most recent address to the nation on the Covid-19, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed grave dissatisfaction in the rising disregard for the Covid-19 safety protocols.

He indicated that he will be forced to send the country back into partial lockdown should the trend continue.

Joshua Kyeremeh 

Secondly, the National Security Coordinator, Joshua Kyeremeh dies also from Covid-19.

A source at the National Security Secretariat who confirmed the death revealed that the security capo died in the early hours of Monday, January 18, 2021.

The late Joshua Kyeremeh was said to be receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the Ga East Municipal Hospital when the incident occurred.

Leornard Gikunu

Lastly ,the Head of Corporate Finance at Fidelity Bank, Leornard Gikunu is reported to have died of Covid-19.

This is according to a Facebook post made by one, Gbeetsatsu Abbey over the weekend.

Giving more details about the financial expert, the post said Mr Gikunu designed the ESLA Bond financing program from scratch and also built the same petroleum finance loan book used by Fidelity Bank.

Frances Awua-Kyerematen

The Associate Director of Students Life and Engagement at Ashesi University, Frances Awua-Kyerematen has also passed away due to Covid-19 complications.

The 40-year-old’s untimely death occurred on the afternoon of January 15, 2021, after battling Covid-19, a few days after celebrating her 40th birthday.

Mrs Awua-Kyerematen worked in Coaching, Counselling and Advising. She was “The Coach” to many students on campus.
