Spokesperson to the Vice President, Gideon Boako has urged Ghanaians to to deny speculations that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has a first wife called Ramatu.
On two national gatherings that were broadcast live on live television to the entire world’s attention, Ramatu was announced as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s first wife.
The first occasion was at the inauguration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Ghana’s president and Alban Suman Kingsford Bagbin mistakenly honored the presence of Ramatu Bawumia while addressing the second lady, Samira Bawumia.
Also, at the State of the Nation Address by President Akufo-Addo on March 9, 2021, when the Speaker acknowledged the presence of the Second Lady, some persons minority Members of Parliament (MPs) shouted that they wanted Ramatu, a reminder of Speaker Bagbin’s mistake in January this year. After the address, #WeWantRamatu trended on social media.
This Ramatu agenda is not well received by the vice president as he has released a press statement written by his spokesperson, Gideon Boako to urge Ghanaians to ignore claims that he has a wife called Ramatu.
In a press release on Friday, 12 March 2021, from the office of the vice president signed by the spokesperson Gideon Boako Ph.D., he has called on Ghanaians to ignore the so-called first wife of the vice president.
He also continued that even though the religion permits him to marry at most four wives, he has been married to the only wife Samira Bawumia for the past 17 years
The office, however, advised Ghana to ignore the rumor as its the work of some people to tarnish the image of the vice president
