The 30-year-old is ‘on cloud nine’ to have made a bow against Sao Tome and Principe in the final round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Awako took to his official twitter account to express his joy over his debut game for the Black Stars. He wrote:

Wow!!!

I’ve been dreaming of this day since a little boy! What a feeling. I’d like to thank the manager for giving me this opportunity, and everyone else that’s believed in me and supported me to get to this point in my career. Follow your dreams with heart!

He has been impressive in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season for Great Olympics where he has scored four goals in 16 matches.

Awako started his professional career with Heart of Lions before signing for Berekum Chelsea.

He helped Chelsea to win the Ghana Premier League and played in the CAF Champions League in 2012 before he was sold to Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

Awako was a member of the Ghana U20 squad that won the 2009 African Youth Championship in Rwanda.
